Zac Efron went to Chicago ... and all he got was a $100,000 bottle of champagne from the son of a Russian billionaire!!!

Efron was at the Board Room nightclub Tuesday night -- for an event organized by Elite Entertainment -- along with Heather Graham and other people from a movie they're working on together.

Sources at the club tell us ... the Russian saw the actors and wanted to send them a gift, so he fired over a 15 litre bottle of Armand de Brignac Nebuchadnezzar Champagne, also known as "Ace of Spades."

The Russian also bought some stuff for his OWN table, including 2 magnum bottles of Grey Goose, 2 magnum bottles of Dom Perignon, 4 bottles of Cristal and 3 magnum bottles of Laurent-Perrier Brut Rosé.

The total bill -- $112,550 ... PLUS -- dude dropped a $22,510 TIP for his server, Jasmine -- 20%.

Not bad for a Tuesday night.

2011 CEO National Conference Headed to Fort Worth, Texas

The 2011 Collegiate Entrepreneurs’ Organization(CEO) National Conference will host over 1,000 entrepreneurial minded college students in Fort Worth, Texas, October 27-29. The National Elevator Pitch, CEO Hall of Fame Induction, Global Student Entrepreneur Awards, CEO Chapter Awards, and the new CEO Student Entrepreneur of the Year Award will all be part of this year’s conference added to the over 70 speakers.

CEO will be honoring one of the original founders of Chuck E. Cheese, Gene Landrum by inducting him into the CEO Hall of Fame at the National Conference at at the TCU vs. BYU football game in Cowboys Stadium. Landrum originated the Chuck E. Cheese concept of family entertainment. CEO will also be recognized during the game.

Gene Landrum joins a prestigious list of CEO Hall of Fame inductees that include Michael DeLazzer (Redbox), Jeff Hoffman (Priceline.com), Gordon Segal (Crate & Barrel), Herb Kelleher (Southwest Airlines), Steve Wozniak (Apple Computers), and many more.

Around 70 speakers will join students in a celebration of entrepreneurship while encouraging them to act on their ideas and passion towards being their own boss and creating jobs. Among the speakers will be several of Inc’s 30 Under 30 entrepreneurs Daniel Gomez Iniguez of Solben, and Arel Moodie of the Extreme Entrepreneurship Tour.

Daniel Gomez Iniguez earned over a Million in revenues through his alternative energy company Solben before his 21st birthday in Septmber. Solben now projects to create over 3 million in revenue during 2011. Iniguez learned how to produce biodiesel while attending high school and a college course at the same time.

Arel Moodie is an energetic speaker who started a sold a web real estate company. In 2009, Moodie became a partner of the Extreme Entrepreneurship Tour (EET), and has acted as the event emcee at EET’s 100 events a year.

A total of 60 competitors will take part in the National Elevator Pitch Competition held throughout the conference. Past finalists of the competition have gone on to launch their businesses successfully with the help of cash prizes they received from the competition. The Elevator Pitch Competition will award a first place prize of $2,500 and a total of over $6,000.

Justin Mares from the University of Pittsburgh finished 2nd in the 2010 competition with his new startup RoomateFit. “I decided to compete in the competition because my professor of entrepreneurship suggested that I do so, and it ended up being a fantastic experience,” said Mares. During the 2010 National Collegiate Entrepreneurs’ Organization Conference held in Chicago, Mares was able to meet Sam Yagan, founder of OkCupid. Yagan provided guidance and advice that has helped Mares to grow his business. “This has been especially helpful, as we have similar businesses that target different audiences. I also met several other students who I am still in contact with and who provide a good network of young people interested in entrepreneurship.”

The Collegiate Entrepreneurs organization holds National and regional events each year to help inspire young entrepreneurial minded students to create their own ventures. CEO operates at over 230 university chapters.

Nike offers up Marty McFly's 'Back to the Future' shoes

The mythical Nike MAG – the futuristic, light-up, athletic shoe from 2015 that has captured the fascination of sneakerheads and movie fans ever since Marty McFly donned a pair in “Back to the Future Part II” in 1989 — is finally a reality.

The footwear, which was unveiled by Nike in Los Angeles Thursday, comes with a couple of caveats. First, they lack the self-lacing mechanism depicted in the film. Second, there are only 1,500 pairs in existence. Third, they can only be bought via auction through E-Bay.

But the good news is that the auction of the shoes will go to the Michael J. Fox Foundation to fund Parkinson’s disease research. That will amount to no small chunk of change given that a small ceramic replica in a box signed by Nike’s vice president of innovation, design and special projects, brought in $3,500, and a pair of the Nike MAGs packaged in a bright yellow packing case (which will be personally signed by Michael J. Fox -- Marty McFly himself) fetched $37,500 in just eight minutes of frenzied bidding at a live auction Thursday night at the Montalban Theater in Hollywood.

The centerpiece of that event — which included appearances by actor Christopher “Doc Brown” Lloyd and Tinker Hatfield (who designed the shoes that appeared in the original film)- – was the reveal of the shoes themselves in all their glowing LED and electroluminescent glory.

The shoes were designed to be precise replicas of the film version, right down to the contour of the gray fabric upper, the speckled Zolatone sole and glowing Nike logo strap. The astonishingly light 2011 Nike MAG (the name refers to “magnetic levitation”) is the company’s first rechargeable shoe, and can glow for five hours between charges.

While technology hasn’t advanced far enough to satisfy the most hard-core movie fans and sneakerheads who’ve long hoped for the self-lacing feature depicted in the movie, Hatfield dangled a shoelace of hope.

“We’ve got some prototypes that work but they’re not ready for prime time yet,” he said during an interview earlier in the day.

So, if a self-lacing version is in the works, why release a non-lacing version now? Nike’s chief executive Mark Parker and the Michael J. Fox Foundation co-founder and Executive Vice President Debi Brooks both point to the opportunity to leverage the enthusiasm for the Nike MAG in hopes of doubling the amount of money raised.

“Google co-founder Sergey Brin and his wife Anne Wojcicki have pledged a matching grant of up to $50 million to the Michael J. Fox Foundation through the end of 2012,” Brooks said. “That’s the kind of thing that can really help us envision a future without Parkinson’s.”

Each day, for 10 days (starting Sept. 8) 150 pairs of the 2011 Nike MAG shoes will be put up for auction at nikemag.ebay.com. Bids for the first round of shoes ranged from $4,000 to $8,100 in the first few hours after the announcement.

The difference between a great person and an average person is how they react to setbacks. Having a few set backs this week made this post really hit home.

Abraham Lincoln

Probably the greatest example of persistence is Abraham Lincoln. If you want to learn about somebody who didn't quit, look no further.
Born into poverty, Lincoln was faced with defeat throughout his life. He lost eight elections, twice failed in business and suffered a nervous breakdown.

He could have quit many times - but he didn't and because he didn't quit, he became one of the greatest presidents in the history of our country.

Lincoln was a champion and he never gave up. Here is a sketch of Lincoln's road to the White House:

1816 His family was force out of their home.
He had to work to support them.
1818 His mother died.
1831 Failed in business
1832 Ran for state legislature - lost
1832 Also lost his job - wanted to go to law school but couldn't get in.

VMAs bring MTV's biggest audience in the network's history.

With 12.4 million viewers tuning in, the 2011 Video Music Awards scored MTV's biggest audience in the network's history.

MTV released its ratings from Nielsen Media on Monday, celebrating its total audience and its record setting ratings in the target 12- to 34-year-old demographic. The VMAS delivered a 10.8 rating with 8.5 million P12-34 viewers, making it MTV's most-watched telecast of all time in the demo.

The VMAs topped the previous record of 11.95 viewers in 2002. Demo viewership was up 8 percent from 2010 and overall tune-in was up 9 percent. MTV says the VMAs is the No. 1 non-sports cable telecast of 2011 in terms of total viewers.

The VMA pre-show ranked as the best on record in 12-34 and total viewers, pulling 5.2 million P12-34 viewers and 7.3 million total.

Online, MTV Digital saw its highest VMA day ever on Sunday, with 2 million unique visitors visiting the site. The site received more than 10 million page views Sunday, up 18 percent from 2010.

I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.

As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.

I believe Apple’s brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.

Louboutin loses to YSL in battle of red soles

A fight by fancy French footwear king Christian Louboutin for the exclusive right to put red soleson shoes got kicked out of court Wednesday in a victory for rival Yves Saint Laurent.

The legal battle in a New York court pitted two fashion leaders in a bitter contest for what Louboutin said was the soul of its extravagantly expensive shoes -- the signature scarlet outsole.

In federal court, US District Judge Victor Marrero ruled that Louboutin -- even if widely recognized for its trailblazing use of red under the shoe -- could not stop competitors like YSL from doing the same thing.

"Because in the fashion industry color serves ornamental and aesthetic functions vital to robust competition, the court finds that Louboutin is unlikely to be able to prove that its red outsole brand is entitled to trademark protection," said Marrero, who revealed himself as an ardent admirer of the sexy slip-ons.

The million-dollar suit for "trademark infringement, unfair competition and false designation of origin" was filed in April in New York claiming that a series of YSL shoes would mislead consumers familiar with Louboutin's scarlet soles.

An attorney for Louboutin told AFP he was "profoundly disappointed."

"Even though the judge agreed that Louboutin's red sole mark was famous and well known, he appears to have concluded 'sua sponte' that in the fashion industry one ought not be able to use a single color as a trademark," Harley Lewin added.

"We are currently evaluating all alternatives."

Louboutin's glam footwear was featured on the consumer-worshipping television series "Sex and the City" and sells about 240,000 pairs each year in the United States alone, with revenues of about $135 million.

A pair typically costs hundreds of dollars, but can sell for far more, with the Maggie Leopard-Toe Pump, complete with red-lacquered under soles, listed at $1,095 in the Neiman Marcus department store.

Peppering his ruling with references to sources as diverse as pop star Jennifer Lopez and poet Walt Whitman, Marrero acknowledged Christian Louboutin's "bright idea."

Louboutin's "bold divergence from the worn path paid its dividends," he said.

The judge even waxed lyrically about the sheer appeal of the shoes.

"When Hollywood starlets cross red carpets and high fashion models strut runways and heads turn and eyes drop to the celebrities' feet, lacquered red outsoles on high-heeled, black shoes flaunt a glamorous statement that pops out at once," he wrote.

But allowing the color red to be trademarked was a step too far -- even for shoes that good, ruled Marrero.

"Awarding one participant in the designer shoe market a monopoly on the color red would impermissibly hinder competition among other participants. YSL has various reasons for seeking to use red on its outsoles."

YSL's spat with Louboutin was over four shoes from the fashion house's 2011 Cruise collection: the Tribute, Tribtoo, Palais and Woodstock models. They all have red outsoles.

However, YSL says it has featured red soles all the way back to the 1970s.

As for Christian Louboutin's claim to a breakthrough in fashion design, YSL is scornful.

The idea for red soles was "copied from King Louis XIV's red-heeled dancing shoes or Dorothy's famous ruby slippers in 'The Wizard of Oz,'" Judge Marrero quoted YSL as saying.

We know Kanye West and a lot of his fellow bling-boasting hip-hop stars are living the good life. But just how good is it?

Forbes' list-o-mania continues with its unveiling of 2011's Hip-Hop Cash Kings, compiled according to how much the rappers banked over the past 12 months from album sales, touring, merchandise deals, business ventures, etc.

Despite all the sturm und drang that drags him down from time to time, Kanye, of course, made the list. Where does he rank, however, next to his latest collaborator, Jay-Z; old-timers like Dr. Dre and Birdman; or relative youngsters like Lil Wayne?

Sure enough, the Carter rules.

Jay-Z (aka Shawn Carter) leads all comers once again with $37 million in earnings since last August. A majority of the dough is proceeds from his Blueprint 3 tour, but the onetime retiree owes plenty to his 40/40 luxury-sportsbar chain, an interest in the New Jersey Nets and other investments. And it's nice to have that $150 million, 10-year deal with concert-promoting behemoth Live Nation to fall back on, as well.

Ludacris also raps from time to time, and he expects his eighth studio album, Ludaversal, will be out in early 2012.

Hacktivist group Anonymous, which has been responsible for cyber-attacks on the Pentagon, News Corp, and others, has vowed to destroy Facebook on November 5th (which should ring a bell).

Citing privacy concerns and the difficulty involved in deleting a Facebook account, Anonymous hopes to "kill Facebook," the "medium of communication [we] all so dearly adore."

This isn't the first time Anonymous has spoken out against social networks.

After Google removed Anonymous' Gmail and Google+ accounts, Anonymous pledged to create its own social network, called AnonPlus.

As Gawker deftly points out, Forbes Magazine estimated Soulja Boy's 2010 income to be $6 million, a very healthy income, but not one that justifies a private jet. How exactly those numbers makes sense isn't exactly clear.

When a three-day concert festival arrives, people listen, or in the case of Insomniac’s Electric Daisy Carnival, they dance into the wee hours of the morning. Held this past weekend from June 24–27, with more than 200 performers and an estimated 80,000 in attendance, this year’s festival was nothing short of amazing.

The festival showcased some of the best talent in house music, transforming Las Vegas Motor Speedway into an eclectic variety of performers and other carnival revelry that included Ferris wheels, fun houses, carnival fare and more.

However, fans gathered to hear some of the world’s most popular DJs, including Benny Benassi, Tiesto, David Guetta, Swedish House Mafia and Skrillex as well as Richie Hawtin, Green Velvet and Rusko.

On the final night, headliners Swedish House Mafia played to a swelling crowd of 40,000 festivalgoers, with special guest vocalist John Martin taking center stage in a surprise reveal. Afterward, crowds were presented with a 10-minute fireworks show that had Red Bull skydivers shooting off flames, lighting up the sky during the two-hour experience.

New York-- In this economy, wouldn't we all love to have a savings account balance of a few thousands, much less millions!

It appears that someone has some expendable cash to the tune of almost $100 million dollars, according to dealbreaker.com.

The Wall Street gossip site DealBreaker.com posted an ATM receipt Wednesday, but the thing that caught everyone's eye was the balance remaining in the account: nearly $100 million.

The receipt, from a Capital One Bank ATM in East Hampton, NY, and dated June 18, showed an available balance of $99,864,731.94, after a $400 withdrawal.

According to DealBreaker, the account holder of the bank account is hedge fund manager David Tepper. When contacted by The New York Post about the found receipt, Tepper denied being in the Hamptons in June, and told the newspaper he would never do anything as "irresponsible as leaving $100 million in a savings account."

There is no official word if the receipt is Tepper's, but whoever holds the account did have to pay a foreign ATM fee of $2.75.

The main room has a sprawling dance floor, two bars, and an elevated DJ booth. High-tech sound and lighting blanket the space, where DJs spin a mix of house, mash-ups, hip-hop, and Top 40. There are connecting dance platforms behind the club’s many V.I.P. booths to encourage interaction throughout the room. Oversize frames adorn the walls, showcasing original photography depicting voyeuristic imagery. Designed by Amy Kim of AK DesignNetwork (whose design credits include collaboration with Philippe Starck on the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills), the 20,000-square-foot space merges vintage gothic design with modern touches.

In the red room, subjects in 3-D seem to photographs follow guests’ moves, and in the gold room, gold lighting washes the circular alcove. In defeating Ramsey Nijem with a first-round knockout Saturday night in Las Vegas at the main event of The Ultimate Fighter 13 Finale, Ferguson became the winner of the 13th season of the Spike reality show. That earned the 27-year-old welterweight the "six-figure contract" that UFC president Dana White loves to tout at these finales, and with it he gets the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of past TUF champions Griffin (Season 1), Evans (Season 2) and Serra (Season 4), all of whom went on to win a UFC championship. Ferguson put on a stunning performance of his own. "Holy crap, man," Ferguson said as he was watching the end of the fight on a big screen in the arena. "It's kind of like, I don't remember even throwing that. I know he got me a couple of times, but I weathered the storm. I knew he was going to try to take me down, so just like B.J. Penn and [Jon] Fitch, you know, take him out of his own game."

BJ's Restaurants co-founders open new dining concept

Huntington Beach-based BJ's Restaurants Inc. Co-Founders Paul Motenko and Jerry Hennessy are launching a new "fast-casual-plus" dining concept – this time with iPads.

When the first STACKED: food well built opens in May in Torrance, diners will be able to design their own meals using tableside Apple iPads, starting from the plate up. The use of the iPad enables the eatery to offer more upscale food options and better service than typical fast-casual eateries, according to the restaurant.

"STACKED defies existing categories and will elevate fast-casual dining to a new experience that we are calling ‘fast-casual PLUS,’” said Motenko of the new Irvine-based concept.

Diners can choose from a range of signature items, including a smoked-salmon-topped pizza with a blend of cheeses, among other ingredients, or a burger with fried egg, Swiss cheese, bacon and sundried tomato aioli, and classic salads, such as a steakhouse-inspired wedge. Or, diners can build their own dishes. More than 35 ingredients are offered for salads alone, as well as burgers with the choice of certified Angus beef, chicken, turkey, salmon or vegetarian options, four types of buns, and different toppings and sauces; sausage selections; and pizzas with slow-cooked pulled pork or veggies, among others. The eatery also will offer a selection of sides, a kids menu, beer and wine, and customizable or signature shakes and ice-cream sandwiches.

After diners submit their orders via the iPad, the eatery's servers deliver the meals to the tables. In addition, the restaurant will allow customers to store their menu favorites for future visits, and it will offer to-go service.

“Integrating personalized ordering technology into the restaurant business model allows us to focus on providing our guests a higher quality, more enjoyable dining experience at a much better value than traditional casual restaurants,” said Motenko, who, along with Hennessy, left BJ's Restaurants in 2008.

The first STACKED location, slated to open at the Del Amo Fashion Center, will be housed in a 6,300-square-foot space and will offer seating for 160. It will boast a modern industrial atmosphere with steel sash windows, wood floors, open kitchens, social dining counters, booths and colorful lighting. STACKED Restaurants also has plans to open two additional eateries this year – one at Fashion Valley Mall in San Diego this summer, followed by Los Cerritos Center in the fall.

“Sleep No More” is an insane, interactive theater experience. Situated inside the (fictitious) McKittrick hotel, producers are putting Manhattan’s Club Row (West 27th Street between 10th and 11th avenues) back on the relevancy map with their over-the-top creation. Approximately 100,000 square feet of space — much of which was repurposed from closed clubs such as Home and Guest House — was converted into a stunning 1930s replica of a hotel; a live, dark, sexually charged version of Macbeth plays out within. The audience stares from the corners of various rooms, clad in “Eyes Wide Shut” style masks, which must remain on at all times. Even during the orgy scene.

The superb acting aside, the ability to interact with the actors noted and the level of fear that steadily rises as guests wordlessly (one of the only mandates of the show) wind their way through this dimly lit fantasy world acknowledged, one of the more interesting aspects of the show is its partial foundation and development in nightclubs. NASCAR Star Kyle Busch Busted For Doing 128 MPH In Lexus LFA

NASCAR star Kyle Busch, currently third in the Sprint Cup standings, was pulled over on a road near his home in Mooresville, North Carolina yesterday for speeding in a bright yellow 2012 Lexus LFA not unlike the one pictured above.

Busch was driving with his wife Samantha in the car at a speed of 128 mph in a 45 mph zone when he was spotted by local police and subsequently pulled over.

He was given a citation for speeding, as well as careless and reckless driving, and has since apologized for his actions, stating that he will never do anything like that again--on public roads at least.

The yellow LFA Busch was driving was on loan to him from Lexus and was to be returned the next day.
Interestingly, this wasn’t Busch’s first traffic citation.

In 2006 he was issued a summons for reckless driving in Richmond, Virginia for screeching his tires in a fast food parking lot, and in 2008 he was reportedly cited for doing 55 mph in a 35 mph zone in Iredell County, North Carolina.

On June 14th, the goldRush Rally will start out in Denver Colorado. Participants will check into the Four Seasons Hotel to finish registration and finish up last minute details such as stickering of the cars. The participants will get to meet one another and then prepare for the kickoff VIP Party later that night. At sunrise the next morning, the journey will commence.

The morning of June 15th, drivers will venture on a 6 hour drive to Park City Utah where they will encounter scenic routes along great driving roads. Participants will finally arrive at the St Regis Hotel Deer Park to relax a little bit and then prepare for the VIP Party later that night.

After Park City, drivers will embark on a journey to Las Vegas on June 16th, where they will meet more drivers joining in at this leg. The day will bring action packed racing at the local drag strip where cars will go head to head for fun and laughs. The night will end at the new Cosmopolitan Hotel in Vegas. After all, Vegas is known for their epic parties.

After ongoing negotiations, the real estate tycoon finalized the deal to buy the Kluge Estate Winery and Vineyard outside Charlottesville in Virginia last week.

He paid the bargain price of $6.2 million for 800 acres in a bank auction, reported the Washington Post.

“I’m really interested in good real estate, not so much in wine,” Trump said. “This place had a $28 million mortgage on it, and I bought it for $6.2 million.”

Trump swooped in to buy the property as a “white knight” investor from friend Patricia Kluge, an embattled Virginia socialite. He will keep Kluge on to head operations.

The vineyards produce varietals that include Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

In addition to his empire of hotels and golf courses, Trump’s investments include a range of luxury foodstuffs like Trump Vodka, Trump Tea, Trump Chocolate and bottled spring water, Trump Ice.

World’s Oldest Champagne to be Auctioned

Two bottles of 200-year old champagne recently salvaged from a Baltic Sea shipwreck will be auctioned off in June.

Finland’s autonomous province of Aaland “has decided that two bottles will be sold at an exclusive champagne auction held in (the capital) Mariehamn on June 3, 2011″.

One of the auctioned bottles will be from the house of Veuve-Clicquot and the other from the now extinct house of Juglar.

They are part of a batch of around 150 champagne bottles divers stumbled upon last July in a two-masted schooner which had run aground sometime between 1825 and 1830.

Salvaging of bottles — preserved in ideal conditions at the bottom of the Baltic Sea — began in August and authorities identified the bottles as the world’s oldest Juglar and Veuve Clicquot brands.

In January, they announced Heidsieck champagne bottles were also in the lot.

“These bottles are unparalleled in the market. You can only speculate on what the end price will be, but it will probably be at record levels,” champagne expert Richard Juhlin said in the statement.

In November, when the champagne was uncorked for the world’s media and wine experts to taste, Juhlin told AFP that either bottle could fetch 100,000 euros ($144,925).

“Ah!” he had let out in appreciation when tasting the two-century-old bubbly, describing the Juglar as “more intense and powerful, mushroomy,” and the Veuve-Clicquot as more like Chardonnay, with notes of “linden blossoms and lime peels”.

Aaland officials announced at the tasting event the province would auction off one bottle of each make, but no date had been made public until now.

The designated auction house is Acker Merall and Condit.

The Aaland archipelago at the mouth of the Gulf of Bothnia belongs to Finland, though it enjoys autonomy from Helsinki and locals speak Swedish.

The Facebook founder has been known to relinquish his techie prowess when the media come around, but when Zuckerberg was portrayed as a skinny nerd in the Oscar nominated film “The Social Network”, Facebook’s team pushed Zuckerberg into the limelight. Eventually the public saw more of this Forbes’ billionaire in 2010 than in the seven years since we got to know him through Facebook – with an SNL cameo, $100 million donation to the Newark Public School System and round two with Barbara Walters.

You can’t go anywhere in fashion without hearing Bernard Arnault’s name – since recently being named the fourth richest person in the world, he isn’t all that foreign. Sam Nazarian's hospitality group SBE has acquired its largest Los Angeles nightlife competitor, David Judaken's Syndicate Hospitality—which means Nazarian now has the biggest portfolio of nightclubs on the West Coast. Added to a roster of clubs that already includes Industry and the Abbey are Hollywood's MyStudio, MyHouse, Eden, and Crimson and Opera. SBE now has 25 venues in all, with a plan for 35 by the end of next year, according toThe Los Angeles Times.

In an in-depth interview, Nazarian told The Times that he expects to reopen the soon-to-be shuttered Sahara Hotel in Vegas, acquired in 2007 for an estimated $300 million. He'll reopen it in 2014 as an SLS Las Vegas, with six restaurants and two nightclubs. "We've spent $30 million in design development drives; we're shovel-ready. If we were admitting defeat, we would have admitted it," he toldThe Times, referring to much speculation over financial trouble.

Nazarian told The Times that his plan is to transfer Los Angeles-grown brands like SLS, Redbury, Cleo, Hyde, and the Bazaar to other markets, including international markets.

Sam Nazarian is placing his bets on Las Vegas – again.

The L.A. entrepreneur announced last week that his nightlife and hospitality company, SBE LLC, plans to open a Hyde Lounge at the Bellagio Resort & Casino on New Year’s Eve. Nazarian already owns the Sahara Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, which he purchased for about $350 million with a partner in 2007 and had planned to renovate before the recession hit.

Nazarian is looking to join Vegas’ booming nightclub scene, famous for celebrity-dotted, opulent parties. He said in a statement that SBE will be introducing a new kind of nightlife to Sin City.

“We’ve secured one of Vegas’ most prestigious locations and will usher in a new and definitive chapter in nightlife on the Strip,” he said.

The newest Hyde will be in the Bellagio’s Fontana Bar space, which overlooks the hotel’s famed dancing fountains. Designer Philippe Starck will redesign the 12,000-square-foot venue to include indoor and outdoor areas that will serve as a lounge until the nightclub opens at 10 p.m.

The Vegas outpost will be the fourth Hyde for SBE, which already operates locations in Hollywood, at downtown L.A.’s Staples Center and at the Mammoth Mountain ski resort. There are plans to open a Hyde in Miami next March.

Inspiration factors greatly into your other job is as a substitute teacher. Is it difficult to balance your two lives?

It can be a challenge. It depends on how I’m scheduled. Sometimes I’ll go out and network till 1:45 a.m. and won’t fall asleep till 3 a.m. and then I’ll be up at 6:30 a.m.

The fact that you neither drink nor smoke—which is rare—must greatly help.

I’ve had 25 shots in my life, all on special occasions, something significant like graduating New Mexico State, the first time working with Dave Fogg and DJ Spryte at [the Palm’s] Midsummer Night’s [Dream] party. I’ve told so many people, “No, with all due respect, it’s nothing personal.”

So why do you say no to booze?

My plan was to be a baseball player, and I never wanted any reason or excuse to be held back from not making it to the pros. I never cared for the taste. Then that just carried over into DJing.

At the start of your career, how did you choose “Dainjazone.” Should we be afraid?

I wanted to be a battle DJ, and Big L had a song called “The Danger Zone.” The hook was “One-Three-Nine and Lennox is the danger zone/Where no man can withstand or hold his own.” That line was so raw, I figured as a battle DJ, that’d be a dope name, like, “I gotta face Dainjazone.” Mentally it might throw someone off.

You’re a club DJ now, not a battle DJ. How would you brand yourself?

I’m about respect, integrity, creativity, morals, and style. Integrity would be just doing the right thing, creativity—well, that’s nonstop with me. It’s a practice that has to be done everyday, re-creating yourself and procreating with others.

You also mentioned style. What’s yours?

It’s a mix of a lot of things: Mark Ronson-meets-Kanye West-meets-’80s hip-hop-meets-futuristic. Ronson’s latest album is an inspiration for the way I dress now. It’s amazing how music can speak to you and inspire you to do certain things, and what it associates itself with.

And you are rarely seen out without your signature glasses.

They’re called Cazals. I have three different styles. They’re the same ones that Run-DMC would wear. If I’m out in the scene, I have to wear those trademark glasses or people won’t recognize me.

As Leader of the New School, and with so much competition out there, what advice would you give to up-and-comers?

It all comes down to the hustle, what makes you stand out. Networking is huge, going out, relationships, having a residency. Study and practice. Being a DJ is like being a new rock star, and everyone wants to be a part of that movement. Do it because that’s what you wanna do. Have respect for what you’re doing. DJs complain about politics, but if you grind and do yourself right, those politics will come back like karma.
